DESCRIPTION:
The System Administrator will be responsible for daily management and support of our production data center, including a highly scalable, load balanced .NET backend and .NET application support, as well as all requisite local and wide area networking. The position will also be responsible for day to day management and support of the development and office environments of this fast growing, mobile phone ad serving technology company. The supported systems are used to deliver advertising and software applications across a number of platforms, including mobile and Internet client devices. This position requires at least five years experience with highly scalable, sophisticated commercial grade database and application server technologies.
DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Support I.T. systems and services, including production and development environments and internal office systems.
• Continue to build overall systems architecture to ensure that internal office needs and software development and production needs are stable and secure as we continue to grow.
• Build and deploy, manage and maintain, local and remote Windows Servers, CentOS, Other Linux, and OpenSolaris servers for projects that continually need to scale.
• Assist with day-to-day systems operations, including backup, upgrades, patches, etc.
• Resolve technical, capacity and security issues.
• Assist with asset tracking, ordering, and documentation.
• Maintain complex local and wide area, wired and wireless networks.
• Research, recommend, and implement new technologies.
• Some desktop support and documentation.
• Schedule and perform hardware/software maintenance.
• Manage licenses and software version upgrades.
• Install, configure and maintain server applications and services including IIS, MS Exchange, Active Directory, DNS, LDAP, DHCP, Log file management, e-mail gateways, VPNs, and department specific applications.
• Install, configure and support all network and infrastructure equipment (HP, Procurve and Brocade switches, Crescendo load balancers, Sonicwall and BSD based firewalls, SANs such as DELL, 3PAR, SUN)
• Utilize system monitoring tools (Nagios, MRTG) and take appropriate action when alerted.
• Install and configure MS-SQL databases, and provide admin support to DBA.
• Develop bash shell and PowerShell scripts to improve efficiency and automate system tasks.
• Troubleshoot and resolve SwitchVOX VoIP phone system issues.
• Daily management, maintenance and support for Microsoft AdManager, our 24 x 7, distributed, Internet advertising campaign management system
• Assist in project planning and implementation.
• Participate in On-call support.
REQUIREMENTS AND DESIRABLE CHARACTERISTICS:
• Candidate is a highly capable, confident and proactive self starter who is comfortable working in a demanding, fast paced, and occasionally chaotic, close-knit, team environment.
• Successful candidates will have at least 5 years I.T. Systems Administration experience in the Internet space.
• Candidate must be comfortable working in a startup environment.
• Candidate must be facile with handling competing priorities, debugging technical problems in real time and supporting customer facing operations and sales staffs.
• Candidate should possess a knack for working with a variety of personality types, and show good judgment in balancing competing needs.
• Knowledge of the mobile technologies.
• Knowledge of Internet advertising.
• Knowledge of real-time Internet based applications.
• UNIX and PowerShell shell scripting experience.
• Microsoft .NET web services and admin programming language experience.
• Web Server, WAP Gateway, Internet Ad Server or high performance TCP/IP systems experience.
• Facility with troubleshooting a variety of system, networking, database and hardware problems.
• Strong understanding of networks and server technologies including: VPNs, subnetting, firewalling, VLANs, IIS, Apache, LDAP, TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, NFS, CIFS, ZFS.
• Linux/UNIX fluency. Windows Server fluency. Some Apple experience desirable.
• Strong, hands on, real world experience with virtualization environments (VMWare).
• Ability to communicate well with both technical and non-technical audiences.
• Strong organizational skills with focus on details.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• Proven ability to maintain professionalism in stressful situations.
REPORTING TO: Director of I.T.
WORKING HOURS: 9 AM – 5PM, Mon-Fri. + participation in on-call rotation. Occasional weekend projects.
